With just a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a decadent dessert that’s perfect for family gatherings, potlucks, or a cozy night in. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Topping:

  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ¼ cups hot water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
  • Make the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared dish.
  • Prepare the topping: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and ¼ cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
  • Add hot water: Slowly pour the hot water over the topping, but do not stir. This will create the gooey chocolate sauce underneath.
  • Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is set and the sauce is bubbling around the edges.
  • Cool and serve: Let the cobbler cool for 10-15 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Customize it: Add ½ cup of chopped nuts, peanut butter, or chocolate chips for extra flavor and texture.
