Gordon Ramsay Beef Stroganoff Recipe

  • Author: ARLINDA
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Beef Stroganoff is a rich and creamy dish originating from Russia, made with tender pieces of beef cooked in a flavorful mushroom sauce. The dish has evolved over time, with modern variations focusing on lighter, healthier ingredients while maintaining its indulgent taste. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or special occasions, Beef Stroganoff is often served with noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice, allowing the creamy sauce to shine.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef (sirloin, tenderloin, or chuck), cut into thin strips
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms (button or cremini), sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sour cream or heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Beef: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.

  • Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking for an additional 5 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and browned.

  • Make the Sauce: Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir to combine. Gradually add the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Stir in Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Allow the sauce to simmer for 5-7 minutes, letting it thicken.

  • Add Cream and Beef: Lower the heat and stir in the sour cream or heavy cream. Add the cooked beef back into the pan and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Serve: Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, rice, or cauliflower rice for a low-carb alternative.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can substitute the sour cream with Greek yogurt or use a combination of low-fat cream and broth.
  • You can replace the beef with chicken or even a vegetarian option like tofu for a variation.
  • Be careful not to overcook the beef, as it can become tough. Cook it just until browned, then remove it from the pan while you prepare the sauce.
